Sheffield Wednesday have strengthened their goalkeeping options with the short-term arrival of Joe Lumley from Bristol City on a seven-day emergency loan.

The 30-year-old shot-stopper joins the Owls following the suspension of Ethan Horvath, who was shown a red card during Saturday’s defeat against Charlton Athletic. With no senior goalkeeper available for selection, Wednesday moved quickly to secure Lumley’s services.

Lumley is set to feature immediately and could make his debut when the Owls host Middlesbrough at Hillsborough on Wednesday night. The experienced keeper brings valuable Championship experience, having previously represented clubs such as Queens Park Rangers, Reading, and Gillingham.

Off the pitch, the South Yorkshire club continue to navigate financial challenges. Reports suggest Wednesday are facing a potential winding-up order related to outstanding payments owed to HMRC.

Currently sitting at the foot of the Championship table, the Owls will be hoping Lumley’s addition can help steady the defence as they look to turn around their difficult run of form and climb away from the relegation zone.
