Two clubs from the sixth tier of English football are already assured of making history by featuring in this season’s FA Cup third round, following Monday’s dramatic second-round draw.
In one all-non-league clash, Slough Town of the National League South will welcome Macclesfield, who compete in the National League North. With both sides eyeing a rare third-round appearance, it ensures at least one team from outside the top five divisions will be in the hat alongside Premier League and Championship clubs when they enter in the new year.
Meanwhile, Chelmsford City, fresh from an emphatic 4-1 victory over local rivals Braintree Town, will enjoy home advantage once again as they take on fellow National League South outfit Weston-super-Mare.
Elsewhere in the draw, Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke is set for an emotional return to his former side Port Vale, while Gateshead will face a stern test at home against League Two leaders Walsall.
After a thrilling 4-3 triumph over Forest Green Rovers, Jack Wilshere’s Luton Town travel north to face Fleetwood Town, continuing their exciting cup adventure. Brackley Town will also enjoy home comforts as they welcome League One’s Burton Albion, and Wealdstone prepare for an away trip to Grimsby Town.
Former winners Wigan Athletic, who narrowly edged past Hemel Hempstead Town via a penalty shootout, will host Barrow in another intriguing tie. Meanwhile, Buxton, fresh from their extra-time heroics, head to Cheltenham Town looking to pull off another shock.
All second-round fixtures are scheduled for the weekend of 6–7 December, with the football world eagerly anticipating more classic FA Cup drama.
