Aston Villa 2–1 Manchester United: Rogers Brace Lifts Emery’s Side in Top-Four Push

December 21, 2025

Aston Villa continued their impressive run of form with a deserved 2–1 victory over Manchester United, as Morgan Rogers produced two outstanding goals to keep Unai Emery’s men firmly in the hunt near the top of the Premier League table.

The hosts started with confidence and intent, pressing United high and moving the ball sharply in midfield. Their early dominance was rewarded when Rogers opened the scoring in spectacular fashion, cutting inside before unleashing a powerful strike that left the goalkeeper with no chance.

United attempted to respond and enjoyed spells of possession, but Villa remained well organised and dangerous on the break. Rogers doubled the advantage before the interval with another moment of individual brilliance, this time finding the net with a precise finish after gliding past defenders.

The visitors improved after the restart and managed to pull one back, injecting tension into the closing stages. However, Emery’s side showed composure and discipline, limiting clear chances and protecting their narrow lead until the final whistle.

The win moves Aston Villa closer to Arsenal and further strengthens their credentials as genuine contenders this season, while Manchester United are left to reflect on another frustrating afternoon away from home.
