Europa League Roundup: Dyche Secures First Forest Victory as Palace Fall to AEK Larnaca

November 5, 2025

Nottingham Forest enjoyed a perfect start to the Sean Dyche era with a crucial Europa League victory, while Crystal Palace endured a disappointing night after falling to AEK Larnaca on the road.

Forest showed grit and organization in their 2–0 win, marking a strong response under new management. Dyche’s trademark defensive solidity was evident from the opening whistle, as his side absorbed early pressure before taking control of the game. Goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and Taiwo Awoniyi sealed the points, giving Forest a much-needed boost in their group campaign.

Speaking after the match, Dyche praised his team’s discipline and work rate. “It’s just the beginning, but I’m pleased with how the players applied themselves,” he said. “They were focused, compact, and showed real character to get the job done.”

Elsewhere, it was a difficult evening for Crystal Palace, who slipped to a 2–1 defeat against AEK Larnaca in Cyprus. Despite a bright start and an early goal from Eberechi Eze, defensive lapses cost them dearly as the hosts turned the game around in the second half.

Manager Oliver Glasner expressed frustration at the result but remained optimistic. “We played well in spells but lacked concentration in key moments,” he noted. “It’s a setback, but we still have everything to play for in this group.”

The contrasting fortunes of the two English clubs highlight the unpredictable nature of European football. For Forest, Dyche’s arrival has already sparked new belief, while Palace will be hoping to bounce back quickly as they look to keep their qualification hopes alive.
