Great Britain claim double silver at European Wheelchair Basketball Championships

Great Britain took home silver medals in both the men’s and women’s competitions at the European Wheelchair Basketball Championships held in Sarajevo.

The men’s team narrowly missed out on what would have been a record-extending ninth continental title, losing 72–69 to Spain in a tense final on Saturday.
Spain’s victory marked their first-ever European crown, edging GB in a thrilling finish.

Despite a slow start that saw the British side trail by 12 points after the opening quarter, they fought their way back into contention and even took the lead with just over seven minutes remaining.
However, Spain responded late to reclaim control, and GB’s Kyle Marsh’s last-second three-point attempt to force overtime fell just short.
Gregg Warburton led the scoring for Britain with 18 points, delivering another strong display.

A day earlier, the GB women’s team also had to settle for silver after a 66–59 defeat to the Netherlands, who lifted their fifth straight European title.
It was another close contest between familiar rivals, with the Dutch side once again proving their consistency at the top level after also retaining their Paralympic title in Paris last year.

Lucy Robinson stood out for Great Britain with 22 points, while Robyn Love added 10 points and a team-leading nine rebounds.

Although both British sides fell just short of gold, their performances ensured qualification for the 2026 World Championships in Ottawa, Canada, continuing GB’s strong international presence in wheelchair basketball.
